Come out for the Rand orchestra’s youth concert

BLAIRGOWRIE – Randburg youth to showcase classical skills.

The Rand Symphony Orchestra will hold its annual youth concert on 01 June showcasing the talents of eight musicians between the ages of nine and 16.

The concert, called The Rising Stars, will take place at the NG Church hall, in Malcolm Road Blairgowrie, at 3.30pm.

Rin Matsuki, Catherine Stiff, Nathan Emans, Grace Zhao, Althea Steynberg, Inge Lubbe, Amy Stessl and Liesel Roux will perform on piano, violin, flute and clarinet to the works of Haydn, Kabalevsky, Liszt, Mercadante, Mozart, Rieding and Vivaldi.

There will also be an overture written by violinist and conductor Conrad Visser dedicated to former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela.

Tickets will be available at the door from 2.30pm on the day for R100, reduced to R80 for pensioners and scholars, and R60 for preschool children.

For the first time since 1991, Bernard Wozny, musical director at the orchestra, will not be conducting the youth concert, as he is retiring as resident conductor at the end of the year.

Orchestra members will serve tea, coffee and cake to the audience during the interval.
