A call for service delivery in Bloubosrand

Bloubosrand Community Forum and Animal Welfare Group as a sub-committee – Klarika Nettleton writes:

Hi. A very brief update. For a long time we fervently attempted to resolve issues through the correct, prescribed channels – but we have not arrived as yet. We are dealing directly now with the Service Depts.

•  ‘The closure of the Kya Sand Landfill Site and the establishment of a Golf Course on the closed site is probably the most ambitious project ever undertaken by a Community Forum in history’ (a visitor’s comment). True. But the Golf Training Academy should be up and running for many, many years already. The Joburg Property Company told me now that after Pikitup’s permission to use the site they will proceed with documents. I agree with all callers: ‘Why does everything take unbelievably long?’
•  We recently had a two-hour site meeting with JRA who agreed that our roads and some sidewalks need total restoration and upgrading. It might take 5 years. I said: ‘No! We cannot wait that long’. We just had also an intense meeting with Pikitup and will have site meetings, also with City Parks.
•  The Shacks next door – Pipe Line Informal Settlement must go now. We joined hands with Pipe line and Mswawawa up the road, we are on the same side. We are all suffering! No feeling creature can live in these inhumane conditions, just too terrible for words. And Bloubosrand’s image is being tainted – we love our homes. We regularly feed animals, counsel and if possible, have gifts for kids and adults as well. I joined Douglasdale Police Sector Constable Petrus Kwalate for transport who is a great friend to all of us – we spread compassion and unconditional love. The shacks are increasing all the time. People have no work, where are they supposed to live? Government must provide houses, it would be better if all had jobs and could choose where to live. We need to reduce imports and manufacture locally. We are counting on the mayor’s office to intervene and restore everything – failing this – we will ask the President of South Africa on site.
