The Raw Fitness foundation hosted the World Raw competition at Honeydew 5 Star Junction shopping centre on 3 May, giving the general public a chance to compete with professional athletes.

“We host these competitions once a month, giving people who are not professional athletes a chance to show their level best. We have an amateur category and an elite category.

“The winners of the competition are the result of fastest finishing persons with the score in all the activities part of the competition,” said Raw Fitness founder, Mark Nel.

Nel stated that the competition is based on getting people to have fun while they exercise.

“This months’ theme was based on military activities that the soldiers would do before going to battle. The competition is our way of getting the community to live a healthy life style. We want to raise awareness about healthy living through a fun competition.”

Raw Fitness offers a development programme to help those who require assistance regarding their fitness plan.

“We consider ourselves as a fitness coaching facility. We coach the individual according to the goal they have set for themselves.

“We also give people from disadvantaged areas a chance to also be a part of our development programme. Anyone could come to us and should we be able to help them we do.”

Amateur competitor Samantha Oakes said, “I loved competing in the World Raw competition. It definitely made me realise where my strengths and weaknesses lie.

“I will be back in June to compete once again and urge other people to do so as well as this could help keep them fit.”
