Tough skin is needed in this industry – Fiesta Black

FERNDALE - “The album tackles interesting issues which my audience could relate to such as young love, dancing, freedom, rejection and ultimately the discovering of one’s self,” added the aspiring young artist.

Thandi Mokgoankgoa also known as Fiesta Black, is a singer and song writer on the rise.

Her claim to fame came in 2010 when she joined Phezulu Records Selections. She recorded a compilation album which included other house music artists such as DJ Mbuso and Jerah. This Ferndale resident later worked with music heavyweights such as Revolution DJs, Denim, DJ Qness and DJ Ganyani.

Black said she fell in love with the music industry because she wanted to be part of the glitz and glam which came with it. She soon realised it would take more than just the glamorous life to make it as an artist. “Having to figure out who you can trust and who you can’t trust without creating enemies, has often been a challenge I have had to face in this industry,” said Mokgoankgoa.

B.L.A.C.K is the title of her new album which she said, is fused with different genres of music. “My music is a mixture of tribal funk, dubstep, Afropop, traditional, kwasa kwasa and has an upbeat African sound with a touch of class. The album features 13 banging tracks perfected by music chart topping producers such as Heavy K, Black Motion, Chris J and Tibi,” explained Black.

“The album tackles interesting issues which my audience could relate to such as young love, dancing, freedom, rejection and ultimately the discovering of one’s self,” added the aspiring young artist.

Mokgoankgoa describes herself as a cheerful and crazy person. She finds it important to put her family first before work and takes as much time as she needs to relax. She stated that establishing herself in the music industry has not been easy and advises others to not give up. “When it’s time for you to shine then you will shine. When Jesus says yes, nobody can say no. In order to survive in this industry you have to develop a tough skin and not let people bring you down.”
