Putting the safety of the children first

RANDBURG – Cartrack hands over 82 baby car seats at Cresta Shopping Centre.

Car Seats for Kids campaign initiated by Wheel Well, handed out more than 80 car seats to some families at the Cresta Shopping Centre.

The purpose of the programme is to collect car seats from donors which have been cleaned, checked for defects, refurbished and made available to needy families who are then encouraged to perpetuate the cycle once their children have outgrown their car seats.

The statistics of road accidents in South Africa are of huge concern mostly, during the holiday rush. Cartrack which donated the car seats to Wheel Well, appealed to parents to spare a thought for the safety of their children.

“The Car Seats for Kids programme forms part of our, Is it worth it? campaign where we ask the question whether it is worth it to take a chance with the life of your child when that child is not strapped into a car seat,” explained Jacqui Nel of Cartrack.

“While there are number of parents who are not aware of the incredible danger they place their kids in, we also have to remain cognisant of the fact that many families simply cannot afford a car seat,” said Nel. “Wheel Well creates awareness and also provides us with the means to give seats away, thereby helping to keep children safe on our roads.”

The generous donation of car seats goes beyond the act of handing over a car seat to a needy recipient, according to programme founder Peggie Mars. “It is about planting a positive seed of thought in the minds of parents and caretakers about the vulnerability of their children in and around vehicles,” Mars explained. “If we nurture these thoughts carefully, they will grow to educate the thoughts of our children so that they know what it means to be safe on our roads, taking the message into the future.”

“We at Wheel Well are deeply grateful to Cartrack for making this possible. These kind and generous gestures make the Car Seats for Kids campaign effective and very special,” concluded Mars.
