Water gushed out of a fire hydrant

NORTH RIDING – A broken valve caused water to gush out of fire hydrant outside Coca-Cola Dome for two days.

Water gushed out of a fire hydrant outside the Coca-Cola Dome in Northriding, for two and half days during the Easter weekend.

According to Eve Oldham, who works in the area, she notified Johannesburg Water about a week ago.

But the next day she had not been contacted and nothing had been done, so she called the Randburg Sun.

When the Randburg Sun investigated, it found Joburg Water employees working on the fire hydrant.

They explained that a valve on the fire hydrant had broken and caused water to gush out.

They said they were working on the issue, and sure enough, about two and a half days after the water started gushing, the problem was fixed.

“Animals and people are dying of thirst and this happens,” Oldham remarked.

“I have seen animals sucking water off roads because there was no water to drink. There are so many problems in this city, my daughter and I will go live in the bushes.”
