Concerns over drug dealings

GOLDEN HARVEST – Police claim that drug dealings are still prevalent in the park.

Drugs are still prevalent in Golden Harvest Park, although muggings have decreased.

This conclusion was made after a resident made a complain and it was followed up with the police and Ward 101 councillor Ralf Bittkau.

Brent De Luca, the resident, told the Randburg Sun that he does not think the park is safe.

“There are lots of criminals who now, own this park,” argued De Luca.

“They mug, rape and steal from all who dare to enter. All of this is fuelling the crime wave in the Northwold and Northgate areas.”

However, according to Honeydew’s Warrant Officer Gabriel Nonyane who patrols the park, muggings have decreased.

“People have experienced robberies but now it is more quiet,” he explained.

Nonyane added that there was lots of drug dealing in the park and following the Honeydew police’s actions, many arrests were made.

“There have been about 20 drug-related arrests in the last month. Every day arrests are made there.”

Bittkau concurred with the police’s statement, about drug dealings being conducted in the park.

“Drug dealing mostly happens outside the park in 1st Road, but definitely there are still drugs in the park,” he said.

“We once found 5kg of dagga under a bush and I always see cars parked at certain suspicious places.”
