Best rugby schools battle in Randburg

RANDBURG – Saints accept defeat at the hands of South African College School, but Hoërskool Linden reigns supreme over Windhoek High School at the Saint Stithians Easter Rugby Festival.

Randburg’s top rugby schools were pitted against some of South Africa’s best during the Saint Stithians College Easter Sports Festival, which kicked off on 17 April and concluded on 21 April.

The hosts played and lost a tough game against Cape Town’s South African College School (SACS). Defense was the Saints’ main priority in the face of an advancing aggressor. SACS was 12 points ahead by half time. A try by the home side’s Matthew Wade in the second half brought the score to 10-15.

SACS continued their onslaught against the Saints until a last-minute penalty by the Saints’ Asanthi Nxumalo took their score up to 20. But it was too little too late, who conceded a 20-27 victory.

“I thought it was a good game,” an unfazed Saints coach Ian Rickleton told Randburg Sun.

“The team struggled at first, but they came back nicely after scoring two tries. SACS were, however, the worthy winners here after a very competitive game.”

Hoërskool Linden did Randburg very proud in their match against Windhoek High School, beating the Namibian team 48-15.

Linden scored six tries with five successful conversions. Coach Francios Vosloo expressed his pride in his team’s performance.

“Our first two matches against Maritzburg College and Wynberg Boys High were tough. But today we played a lot more strategically, and it ended in our favour. I am very pleased with the results of today’s game.”
