RANDBURG – New medical service unit will be free to all emergency victims.

Netcare 911, with its partners Fury Motor Group and Cartrack, launched a new mobile medical equipment unit aimed at rescuing victims of road accidents. The new Rapid Extrication and Rescue Unit, is a state of the art emergency reaction vehicle which houses the latest and best in lifesaving technologies and it will be used free of charge. Project initiator Nick Dollman, explained that the latest hydraulic and pneumatic equipment has been installed in the vehicle, with various other technologically advanced apparatuses. “This will help us to rescue accident victims in their golden hour of need and enable us, to take them to a place of safety.”

The golden hour, as it is called to by paramedics, is the first hour after someone has been involved in a serious accident and sustained critical injuries. It is crucial for emergency medical staff to get these victims to a hospital as soon as they possibly can, before there is too much blood loss or hypothermia sets in. The team’s first dispatch will be to the N3 toll concession over the Easter weekend, when droves of families will be driving down to the East Coast.

“Our dedicated Netcare 911 volunteers in conjunction with our base in Harrismith,” said Dollman, “aim to significantly boost resources which put are under severe strain by the immense volume of travellers, commuting on the N3 between Johannesburg and Durban.”

Dollman explained that this new unit, will be able to react to any situation and any type of accident at any given time. “We want to give commuters peace of mind, on their way to their holiday destinations, by letting them know that we are there to take care of them.”
