Street signs amiss

RANDBURG – Street signs amiss all around our suburbs.

There are many street and information signs spelt incorrectly or broken, buckled and bent in Randburg.

You pass them everyday, but do you notice them?

A journey down Beyers Naudé Drive (correct spelling) from Honeydew to Windsor West may surprise you, as multiple street signs are spelt incorrectly and information signs have been knocked over or turned upside down.

Furthermore, streetlight poles have been found lying on pavements around Randburg.

Some examples of these spelling errors and broken infrastructure include the Jangroentjie Avenue street sign in Randpark Ridge being spelled in one word, and the street sign on the corner of Malibongwe Drive and Judges Avenue, Darrenwood, which has fallen over onto a stop sign and formed a near-perfect right-angled triangle. Also, a streetlight on Hans Schoeman Street, Malanshof is bent to such a degree it looks as if it will fall across the length of the road at any moment.

Photos of this damaged road infrastructure and questions querying when the Johannesburg Roads Agency would repair it were emailed to the agency’s spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers, but she had not responded by the time of going to print.

Ward 114 councillor Maureen Schneemann claimed that Zandspruit was missing many street signs, and Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin also confirmed that there were streets in his ward missing street signs.
