Bryanston’s power struggle

BRYANSTON – Numerous residential properties in Bryanston experienced power outages for days.

According to Bryanston resident John Marsden, City Power was unreachable via its call centre and website between 30 March and 4 April.

“I am a busy person and do not have the time to sit on the phone,” said Marsden.

Councillor of Ward 106, Stephen Moore said he was unsure what caused the outages, but there were several areas in Bryanston that had no electricity for several days.

“There was a major fault with the power station which caused cuts throughout the Bryanston area,” he said.

“City Power kept saying they had fixed the problem, but they were not aware of all the areas that had been affected,” added Moore. He reminded residents that they needed a reference number to address their power outages.

According to City Power spokesperson, Sol Masolo the entity was aware that Bryanston was the latest area targeted by cable thieves.

However, Moore disputed that the power was down because of cable theft but could not be sure as different areas throughout Bryanston were affected at different times.
