Essenhout drive resident gets happy ending

RANDPARK RIDGE - Residents relieved to see intersection fixed.

The corner of Essenhout Drive leading into Randpark Drive, which was probably a headache for motorist for months, has been fixed by Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA). In October 2013, Joburg Water was forced to dig up the stop street sign at the T-junction in order to repair a water leak. By November, the hole which stretched from one side of the road to the opposite side, had been filled with sand and gravel.

“I can’t believe this is the service we’ve received from a so-called ‘World class city’,” complained the disgruntled resident Uwe Böbs, to Randburg Sun shortly before the newspaper went to investigate. “Six months later and the municipality thinks their work is done?”

Böbs also stated that subsequent potholes in and around the hole caused by the recent rains made this corner a hazardous road to turn into. “They were also a terrible eyesore,” he added.

However, when Randburg Sun went to the site to probe, it found an astonished and elated Böbs watching on as JRA retarred the surface. “I couldn’t believe my eyes when I got here and saw that it was finally being fixed.”

JRA spokesperson, Bertha Peters-Scheepers, said that JRA would like to extend their sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused to the community.

“Work is currently in progress by the JRA and they have completed backfilling and skin-patching. The stop sign will also be repainted as soon as the bitumen (tar) is dried and ready.”
