Pothole issues remain

RANDBURG - Claims form now available on entity's website

Honeydew resident Bob Innes expressed his outrage at the state of the roads in his area.

He said, “The two roads that cause the most headaches are Hans Street and Johan Road. We have to use these roads on a daily basis and the amount of potholes are staggering.”

According to Innes these roads are used by residents from three different suburbs around the area. “It is also a thoroughfare for thousands of vehicles everyday going to work and returning home later in the day.” He further explained that motorists are not able to drive on these roads at normal speeds as it would cause damage to one’s vehicle.

“The entity needs to strip these roads down to the base and re-build it from square one as it does not help if they only patch up the existing potholes because it will start to deteriorate as soon as it starts raining,” argued Innes.

In response to the argument the Johannesburg Roads Agency managing director Skhumbuzo Macozama said, “We have a claim form online where motorists can submit their claims after they have damaged their vehicle or lost a tyre. Claimants will have to provide evidence that the road agency’s infrastructure caused the damage.” He further explained that all claims would undergo an investigation and if a claim was found to be valid, it would be paid out. He concluded, “Motorists need to report potholes in order for JRA to work more efficiently.”
