Fed up with the mess

BOSKUIN - A resident in Boskuin is unhappy with the condition of the condition of the park she uses regularly.

Randpark Ridge resident Maroela Streetis is fed up with the condition of the Bartlett Park in Boskruin.

“I take walks in the park and have been unhappy with its condition. Boys with pellet guns seem to be unaware of the dangers of shooting in a built up area and they shoot and injure the birds in the park. This occurs more frequently during school holidays,” complained Streetis.

Streetis stated that people leave litter all over the park and must take the responsibility and clean it up. “There are a number of bins placed within the park but people still continue to scatter litter all around the park and on the sidewalks,” added Streetis.

“Unfortunately due to people who are inconsiderate and have no respect for the environment this lovely sanctuary is being abused. There is a City Parks notice stating that dog owners should control their dogs and have them on leashes. However, people seem to have adopted a ‘don’t care’ attitude allowing their dogs to run freely through the park, soiling the park, chasing, frightening and in some instances killing the guinea fowls. As a result, the guinea fowl are no longer breeding as the large shrubs which previously allowed them to breed and raise chicks in are no longer safe for them and their numbers are diminishing,” complained Streetis.

City Parks spokesperson Jenny Moodley said she would get a team to attend to the matter but asks that residents have respect for nature and the parks to preserve them.
