You have probably seen this face on LoveWorld SAT, Generations, Studio 263, or possibly one of the ample commercials she has done.
Yvonne Katsande is an eloquent and intelligent lady who works at a Christian television station in Randburg.
When she was at University studying towards a law degree, Katsande was offered an acting role by a local producer for a soapie.
“From there I got involved more and more in television work until I started anchoring news,” she said.
As a result of her zeal, Katsande is now an investigative reporter and hosts a political current affairs show.
Although all might be full of glitz and glam, her life has not always been a smooth sailing. A great deal of family problems affected her growing up.
“My parents separated until my mom died and that was unbearable,” she said.
Katsande said she became a very defensive person with anything and everything.
“I closed up and I wasn’t that little playful girl I used to be, my grades in school were even affected.”
The hardships that she went through taught her “to be a very determined woman, a goal getter and never to back down for anything or anyone”.
Growing up, she always adored TV life and imagined herself on screen.
“I dreamt of being a Hollywood actress, famous and rich,” she said laughing out loud.
“I remember the days of standing in front of a mirror and practicing, I found that totally amazing,” she recounted her memories.
Katsande now thrives in a challenging career interviewing influential high ranking political officials. She hopes to own a TV channel and host a talk show in the next few years.
“I see myself as an international media mogul,” she explained.
Katsande knows and understand reality hence she is a member of a voluntary group called Conservation club.
“I do a lot of charity work, feed and clothe children in under privileged societies,” she said.
Katsande has also started a Phenomenal Woman project, where teaches young girls how to speak articulately, be confident and how to choose career paths.
