York damage

FERNDALE - Due to heavy rain residents of York Avenue and Harley Street cannot drive on damaged roads.

Ferndale resident Ig Vermaak said Johannesburg Roads Agency has not attended to the damaged roads after the heavy rain flood.

“The road floods every time it rains. This has ruined the roads completely, residents who have to drive on the corner of Harley Street and York Avenue could not get home on the day it flooded. Two weeks after the flood it is still a continuing struggle to drive in the area,” complained Vermaak.

According to Vermaak this has negatively affected the park on the end of York Avenue. “After the water from the flood subsided the park was in an extremely poor condition, with broken plants and rubbish everywhere. I have logged two separate calls with Johannesburg City Council for the road and the park but have had no response.”

City Parks spokesperson Jenny Moodley said this would be a Johannesburg Roads Agency matter and said once they have dealt with the matter than City Parks would come in to help with the park.

In response to the complaint from the Ferndale resident, Johannesburg Roads spokesperson stated that a team from the agency would visit the site to evaluate just how badly the street and the York Avenue were damaged. She would then respond to the matter with the necessary information.
