Ferndale High on a mission for change

KENSINGTON B - Ferndale High School pupils take pride in creating a new and positive school reputation at their open day.

Ferndale High School hosted their first open day in six years, which for the school simply represented a change of attitude.

According to Ferndale High School Principal Bahiya Manuel, over the years the school has been painted negatively and often pupils associated with failure. “We have turned things around and want to present a positive attitude to the public,” explained Manuel.

“More than anything however, we are doing what is right for the school, as staff we are helping our pupils better themselves which in the long run could better others. Through this event we have taught them the importance of preparing and planning. The entire school was involved with making sure that our open day was a success. This should make them aware of what it takes to be excellent at what they do,” added Manuel.

Bronwyn Fogwell, the organiser of the open day and a teacher at the school stated that organising the open day was only the beginning of greater things to come. She added that there would be other uplifting and creative activities which the school will be doing in order to build a good reputation.

“This brought the school together and lifted the spirit to its maximum level. Pupils were excited to take part in showcasing how great their school is. We hope this has put us on the map and created a new image of our school,” expressed Fogwell.

A school pupil Tanaka Humbani took pride in being one of the school representative council members that assisted the parents and future pupils in taking a tour of the school. “I am happy we did this. This should show people just how amazing our school is, we offer different sports and alternative extra mural activities and we also have good teachers who are a great influence to us,” explained Humbani.
