Street lights on in daytime

RANDPARK RIDGE – Reporting municipal problems is better online than through the telephone.

Street lights on Randpark Drive, in Randpark Ridge, have been shining bright for two weeks.

After she noticed them, resident Sue Cowie, called City Power but hung up when she became tired of waiting for someone to answer.

She tried another avenue for action and decided to send photos of the street lights to the Randburg Sun.

Our journalist spotted it too and snapped this pic and tweeted it to the City of Johannesburg.

When a Randburg Sun journalist followed up with City Power spokesperson Sydney Mphahlele, it was found that the lights were broken.

“The stock of equipment to repair and reset the lights arrived this morning [04 April] and technicians have been made aware of it,” Mphahlele explained.

“They will start working on the lights from Monday [07 April] and will complete the task within the course of [the] week.”

Ward 101 Councillor Ralf Bittkau said that delays for logging faults on the telephone can discourage a resident, but if street light problems are not logged with City Power it is difficult for him to escalate the issue.

He claimed that logging faults online is a better alternative than phoning the relevant department because it is “easy and fast” and he provided the following Internet links and email addresses for residents to log faults to the
