Mugger gets 12 years

RANDBURG – Man sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by Randburg Magistrate's Court.

Tshepo Abdul was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment at the Randburg Margistrate’s Court for mugging and being in possession of stolen items.

On 20 September 2012 Randburg police were on patrol in Hill Street, Ferndale, when a woman waved to them.

She told them she was mugged and pointed to the suspect, who was running away.

Constables Lebogang Matlala and Lekgora Bopape ran after the suspect into Ferndale Spruit Park, where they apprehended him and arrested.

He was found in possession of the woman’s cellphone, clothing store cards and driving licence and also a knife he used to mug her.

Court proceedings were followed until he was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in March.
