Charitable love

The Light House Baby Shelter got stacks of groceries and toiletries from Dis-chem Randridge on valentine's day.

The Dis-chem branch at the Randridge mall donated toiletries and groceries to the Lighthouse Baby Shelter in Sundowner.

“During November 2013 we decided to do a charity drive during the festive season,” said the company’s Randridge branch manager, Sandro Freitas. “The Lighthouse Baby Shelter was chosen as the main beneficiary. This project comprised of two parts. Firstly we obtained a list of all the children at the shelter and then afforded our staff to adopt a child and make up a Christmas present which we delivered to the shelter on 24 December.”

Freitas said the second part was a gift wrapping service that the store offered to their customers at no charge. “All our customers were asked to make a small donation towards our charity drive.”

Founder of the shelter, Eleanor Bless said the shelter relied on the private sector for sponsorship and was extremely grateful to the store for the donation. “All groceries donated are put towards improving our shelter so that the children are given the best facilities and care possible.”

Freitas added that the staff were glad they could make a difference in the lives of the children at the shelter. “We appreciate the support that we received from the community who contributed handsomely to the success of this drive,” concluded Freitas.
