Street shines for three months

A street in Ferndale has been continuously lit for three months.

The streetlights on West Avenue, Ferdnale have been on 24 hours per day since the middle of November.

Residents Mauritz and Liz van Rensburg reported the situation to City Power in early January and were told it would take two weeks to a month to turn the lights off.

“It irritates me that in the evening TV adverts say we must save power but they burn electricity day and night,” Liz said.

City Power spokesperson, Sydney Mphahlele said, “City Power is aware of the lights burning continuously. Currently we are awaiting the arrival of a stock of equipment needed to fix the lights. As soon as it arrives they will be attended to.”

Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood said, “We have a number of streetlights off in the ward that we are trying to solve.

“Residents must log faults on the City Power website. When the lights are always on, the procedure is the same. If the problem still persists after four or five days residents can escalate it with me.”
