Breaking the mould

Randpark High has a new cricket coach.

Former first-class cricketer, Jimmy Breakey, is working hard to develop young cricket talent at Rand Park High School.

He has been appointed as head of the school’s cricket academy and resident cricket professional.

Early morning and afternoon cricket coaching sessions take place at the school exclusively for Rand Park High cricketers, and the boys are reaping the rewards of focused, one-on-one attention that is developing their talent and motivating them to reach their full potential.

The school’s principal Alan Wilke commented, “We are thrilled that Jimmy is a part of our team. His coaching talent, passion for the game and commitment to developing our young cricketers is proving to be invaluable.”

Breakey had an expansive cricketing career and is best known for his role as opening batsman and wicketkeeper when he played for Griqualand West in 1968. He was later selected for the former Transvaal A team under Ali Bacher’s leadership. He also represented South Africa in several iinvitational matches and was asked to coach the struggling Eastern Transvaal Provincial cricket team in 1993/4.
