The cream of the crop

Not only did they achieve high marks at their own school, they even went further.

Four pupils of St Stithians College achieved summa cum laude in the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) finals.

This is the highest award. Candidates are awarded this when they already have academic honours and achieve an average of 90 percent or more, and a minimum of 70 percent in six of the seven subjects in the exams.

Pupil Benjamin Walker attained between 80 and 100 percent in eight subjects and was in the top one percent of all candidates for geography, life orientation, life sciences and physical sciences.

Nikolas Panourgias obtained the same percentages in seven subjects and was on the IEB commendable list. Matthew Leigh went two better, including 100 percent for mathematics. Leigh was also on the board’s outstanding list and he was in the top one percent of all candidates for geography, mathematics and physical science.

Ross Howard also achieved in nine subjects and was in the top one percent of all IEB candidates for accounting, life orientation, life sciences and physical sciences.
