Honeydew police cluster commander Major General Oswald Reddy and the management of the Randburg police held a strategic work session at the Randburg Inn Hotel on 16 January.
The purpose of the session was to find workable solutions in combating crimes which are on the increase in the area.
Factors contributing to increased crime levels include, among others,
- premises occupied by squatters,
- vagrants living in greenbelt areas,
- residents neglecting to use their alarm systems efficiently,
- house windows being left open while residents are out,
- drivers neglecting to lock their cars and
- drivers leaving valuables in full sight in cars.
Station commander of the Randburg police station Brigadier Lettie Hugo urges the community to accept responsibility for their own safety, the safety of their families and to actively participate in residential associations and sector crime forums, to strengthen the partnership between the police and the community.
He thanked Pieter Viljoen of the Randburg Inn Hotel for its ongoing support by making its conference facilities available for the session, as well as for providing refreshments.
