Ward 98 councillor Laurette van Zijl has called on the support of residents to help bring South African hostage Pierre Korkie back to South Africa.

Korkie and his wife Yolanda were working in Yemen when they were kidnapped by members of Al-Qaeda who believed they were Americans. The two are former teachers from Bloemfontein and have two children aged 14 and 16. Van Zijl’s son attended the school where Korkie was a teacher.

Korkie’s wife has since been released after being held hostage for nine months.

The kidnappers have demanded a ransom of R30 million and residents who would like to contribute can SMS Korkie to 42402 and will donate R30 per SMS.
