Love has no age

John Woods and Lucie van der Burg will probably start their wedding dance like at the ballroom classes where they met.

John Woods literally swept Lucie van der Burg off her feet when they met on the ballroom dance floor.

Woods (80) and Van der Burg (84) will be getting married on 1 February at the chapel at the Golden Harvest II in Randburg where they live.

”We have known each other for 18 months and have now been engaged for two months,” Van der Burg said. They are both widowed and both have two children from their previous marriages. ”John has one child here and one in New Zealand, and I have one here and one in Australia,” said Van der Burg. “The children are so excited. They are jumping up and down.”

For the first six months after they met they were just friends. ”I dated other woman after I met her, but when we went out that first time we stuck together,” said Woods.

The wedding will be small with close friends and family. “The past six months there has been quite of lot of marriages on my side of the family,” Van der Burg added. ”My granddaughter got married in August, my daughter remarried in September and now me. My two granddaughters will walk me down the aisle.”

They have found true companionship in each other. ”We share many interests, we enjoy gardening, and ballroom dancing,” Woods said excitedly.

”We even like to go shopping together,” exclaimed Van der Burg.

They are also very excited about their wedding day. Woods said, ”The minister that will marry us said this is an unusual situation for him, since we are the first couple he will marry that is older than him.”
