Funeral held for Graham McLeroth

The anger was left behind and the the memory lived on at Graham McLeroth's funeral.

Blairgowrie resident and co-owner of the Babylon nightclub in Centurion, Graham McLerotha was laid to rest on 24 January.

At the funeral service held at the St Columba’s Presbyterian Church in Parkview, his friends and family all agreed that he would do anything for his fellow human being, as long as it was not early in the morning.

McLeroth (41) died of a heart attack. He was well-known in the gay community and also helped found the first Pretoria Pride last year. Reverent Dr Martin Young said in this painful time for this friends and family there are at least two good things: ”We have the gift of tears. And secondly we have the magnificent gift of memory. We will always remember him. There will be weeping but soon the rejoice will come.”

Young said the day had such a feeling of finality. ”It would be silly to think I would have some magic words to say to you. But I am grateful for the familiar words of our faith. We are greatful for the earthly life of a ‘shared’ son,” added young.

McLerotha’s brother Patrick said McLerotha died young, ”but hey, he lived his life to the extreme. He loved life. We grew very close especially after our father died. Let us leave the anger behind. He was a wonderful friend, and he would drop anything for a friend.”
