Sector 1 needs more support

The Sector 1 Community Policing Forum in Douglasdale encourages more people to join their Neighbourhood Watch.

The Dougladale Sector 1 Community Policing Forum had its first meeting of the year at the Olivedale Library.

The main objective of the meeting was to remind the residents within the sector about using their communication tools as a means to prevent crime.

Forum chairman Margaret van Zwieten said the forum aimed to recruit new members and to encourage members to join the Whatsapp group.

She added that the sector needed more volunteers for the Neighbourhood Watch, which was a sub-section of the forum. “The Neighbourhood Watch has been very effective in the past 16 months,” she said. “This has assisted in decreasing the crime. We need more people to join to help us fight crime.”

The Whatsapp group has become the foundation of the forum, Neighbourhood Watch and residents to inform each other about suspicious activity in the area. It has also become a great platform to share security tips.

‘We encourage people to be involved and be aware of what is happening around them. Anyone is welcome to join and help out in any way they can.”

The next meeting will take place at the Olivedale Library on 10 February at 7pm.
