Rand Water Academy graduates reap rewards

VICTORY PARK – Delta Environmental Centre’s partnership with Rand Water pays off for young people.

The Delta Environmental Centre has played its part in training graduates of the Rand Water Academy who will soon start reaping the fruits of their labour by becoming registered professionals.

The graduates will be placed at several municipalities in the Mpumalanga and Gauteng provinces from 13 to 17 January.

Speaking to Northcliff Melville Times about Delta Environmental Centre’s involvement with Rand Water, Resident Manager Geoff Lockwood explained that in the past the Centre ran workshops with trainees from Rand Water to help them in their horticultural and environmental studies.

“We were able to offer their personnel training in bird identification and awareness so that they could be informed about species that may potent be impacted by Rand Water activities.”

Rand Water Academy’s programme manager Asief Alli said Rand Water, through the establishment of the academy, aims to play a pivotal role in the development of professionals within the water and sanitation sectors. This will be achieved by providing skills and empowering young graduates to become experts in the field.

After placement in municipalities, Rand Water will continue to monitor the graduates’ progress and provide mentorship and technical support.

Alli said Rand Water had already engaged several local and district municipalities, and metropolitan councils to establish their needs and subsequently plan further intakes of the graduates.
