Editor’s note: Opting for sanity

Growing older is mandatory. Growing up is optional. Laughing at yourself is therapeutic!

Having successfully survived a particularly hectic 2013, I have decided that life is too short and I need to make a more concerted effort to enjoy 2014. That, or risk losing what sanity I have left (my family might argue the existence of any).

Achieving balance in life is no small feat and is one which, to date, I have failed to successfully accomplish. Although I am completely opposed to New Year resolutions, I have however decided that it’s time I take a more proactive role in prioritising things in my life.

As a workaholic, it is easy for me to get caught up in work and neglect the other areas of my life. Sadly, I find I tend to meet more and more people with a similar malady.

So, it is with this in mind that I wish you a fulfilling and peaceful New Year.

May you avoid being dragged down by all the negativity over e-tolls, elections and corruption. May you be untouched by crime and blessed by the love of those surrounding you. May you embrace music when stuck in traffic, take the time to enjoy the things that matter and make a point of making new memories with those you hold dear this year.

Remember – growing older is mandatory. Growing up is optional. Laughing at yourself is therapeutic!
