Police have issued a common robbery warning to residents.
Spokesperson Warrant Officer Johannes Maja said, “Common robbery cases are problematic this time of the year, so members of the public are warned not to be lured to secluded areas with promises of discounted or half-priced clothing by unknown people, as that is one of the method criminals use to rob shoppers.”
He added that shoppers should not allow anyone to help them carry their shopping bags or handbag. ATM robberies are also on the increase during the festive season and Maja added, “Do not allow strangers to assist you whilst you are busy with your transaction. Never carry large amounts of cash on you, rather make use of your card unless the shop does not have a card machine.”
He concluded that if residents feel threatened in any way they should contact their nearest police station for assistance.
