Crowds flock to final EFC event

Final event of the night only lasts 44 seconds.

Fans from all over South Africa descended on the Coca Cola Dome for the final Mixed Martial Arts EFC Africa event of the year.

Five different weight classes ranging from bantamweight to heavyweight battled it out in the ring.

The main event was the heavyweight championship title fight between Ruan Potts and Andrew Van Zyl. In their previous encounter Van Zyl took the title from Potts.

However, the former champion has been in good form and surprised fans when he caught Van Zyl in an arm lock and forced him to tap out 44 seconds into the first round. Potts said his game plan was to take out Van Zyl in the first few rounds to avoid a five-round bout. “All of the hard work and training finally paid off,” said Potts. “I want to thank the fans for their support during and prior to the fight.”

The bantamweight opening fight between Cedric Doyle and Baldwin Mdlalose surprised fans as Doyle defeated his opponent with a guillotine choke that forced Mdlalose to tap out.

The most exciting fight of the night was the bantamweight bout between Matthew Buirski and Abdul Hassan who fought to a draw.
