For the love of animals
Resident determined to transform the lives of disadvantaged communities and their fury friends.
Klarika Nettleton is a Bloubosrand resident with a passion for her community and a love for animals.
She formed the Bloubosrand Residents Association with the aim of creating a platform for residents to voice concerns.
“Through the association I am able to help people to transform the community into something better. The committee and I are working together to get better service delivery for all residents. We have also joined hands with the informal settlement in Kya Sand, to move them from their shacks and into better homes.”
In addition to the association Nettleton also heads up the Bloubosrand Animal Welfare Group. ”I do a lot of work for the group in the disadvantaged areas, which includes Cosmo City and the Kya Sand. I go from house to house teaching people about how to take care of their animals.”
The group is currently fighting for the abolition of factory farms, chicken batteries, experiments on animals, animal poaching and cruelty to animals.
Nettleton appeals to veterinarians to help the welfare group expand, and requests they take time to treat animals in disadvantaged areas. ”Anyone who is willing to give their time, transport for the organisation, and offer food for the animals is welcome to contact me.”
