Resident irked by taxis

Metro police need to come up with solutions.

A resident in Northwold feels endangered by taxis.

Carol Swanepoel who lives in 3rd Road complained about taxis that are driven into oncoming traffic to avoid waiting in line.

She said, “These perpetrators endanger the lives of other motorists and pedestrians when they cut in and out of traffic without stopping for oncoming vehicles.” Swanepoel captured video footage of several incidents where taxi drivers used the wrong side of the road during peak-hour traffic from 7am to 8:30am.

“These drivers are ruthless and they are not worried about the safety of themselves and their passengers,” she said.

Ward 101’s Ralf Bittkau mentioned that the general behaviour of taxis in this area is becoming increasingly dangerous and that Metro police need to urgently address these issues.

He concluded, “We have had situations such as assault and road rage that result from taxi drivers disobeying the laws. I am still waiting to hear back from Metro police for solutions to the problem.”
