Power blackouts time after time

No response from City Power for North Riding resident.

A resident in North Riding has been struggling with electricity problems for weeks now, and although she’s been in touch with the relevant entities, the problem persists.

Joyce Stevenson recently spent four days without electricity. “When I realised there was no power I phoned Metro and the phone just rang and rang. Eventually I called our Ward Councillor Ralf Bittkau and he helped me to get to right people at City Power. I spoke to Louis Pieterse, but ever since our phone conversation was over, I have not heard anything back.”

For Stevenson it is a constant frustration. “You know, we need the electricity to pump water. We could not do it then. And on top of having spent four days without power, we received a re-connection bill of over R15 000, because for four months we received no electricity bill, ” Stevenson explained.

“My husband did, however, read the meter and knew what amount was due each month. But now we have this bill. But since we received the bill, we also have not heard anything back from the City.”

Stevenson said whenever the traffic light at the intersection of Malibongwe Drive and Witkoppen Road is out, her electricity is also out. “And as soon as we have a thunder storm, we are without power, and we want rain. On our smallholding we welcome it, but every time it happens, we are without power. I would just like someone to help me out.” City Power is yet to respond to questions sent to them by the Randburg Sun.
