OPINION: The anti-ageing pineapple

The vitamin C in pineapple contains antioxidants that protect skin from the aging effects of sunlight.

Many fruits are good for your skin but pineapple is especially great for anti-aging skincare. It improves hydration, promotes skin renewal, dissolves blackheads and removes excess oil from the skin, unclogging pores.

There are various ways to enjoy the benefits of pineapple on your skin:

1. Dab pineapple juice with a cotton ball onto your face. Leave on for five minutes.

2. Mash ripe pineapple and honey together and apply it on your face.

3. Before bathing scrub your body with a pineapple slice.

4. Rub a slice of pineapple on dark spots, rough areas of the skin and blemishes to reduce them. Leave on for five minutes.

Some people are allergic to pineapple. Before applying it to your skin, rub a small amount onto an unobtrusive area and check for any reaction. Do not use it if any redness, bumps or swelling occurs.

• Pineapple can burn the skin. If you feel a burning sensation remove it and the sensation will pass.

• Do not apply pineapple to burns, broken skin or rashes.
