Club of the year

After exactly ten years the Randburg Bowls Club is the club of the year again.

The Randburg Bowls Club in Boskruin was recently named the Club of the Year 2013 by the Johannesburg Bowling Association (JBA) at a ceremony at the Killarney Gold and Bowls Club.

The club last won the trophy in 2013 and competed against 39 other Gauteng clubs. The club’s president Laurie Stafford said, “We knew we had a good year, with more than 40 new members joining our club.

“Many of them are first time bowlers and our country really needs new bowlers. Furthermore we had great results and many of our members fared well in competitions outside of the club as well.

“The quality of our greens was also considered in the JBA’s decision to award us”.

Stafford explained bowls is a very social sport, but together with the fun and laughter comes a lot of technique. Members of the club are very excited to have the trophy at their club for the next 12 months.
