Clear view for motorists

Ferndale road safer due to Telkom's swift response.

Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood recently gave recognition to Telkom after it moved an obtrusive box on the corner of Bond Street and Elgin Avenue in Ferndale.

Wood said, “The box was situated at a spot where it blocked the view of motorists who wanted to turn into Bond Street from Elgin Avenue. It was dangerous and now it is much safer thanks to Telkom”.

He added within a month of his first call to Telkom the box was moved to a different spot on the pavement. Telkom South Africa operations manager Noddy Maharaj said the moving of the box was very complicated as this particular box provided 900 phone lines in the area. “It took a while to make such a move because there is already an existing cable run. Luckily no phone lines were affected during the switch.”

Wood expressed his gratitude. “This box was at the wrong end of the street, but now motorists have full visibility.”
