Ride for a purpose

Cyclists welcome to join group to raise funds for a charitable cause

A highlight on every cyclist’s calender is the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge that will take place on 17 November.

The event attracts cyclists from around the world sporting strange outfits and who ride for a purpose. This year the Oasis Haven of Love Foundation in Randburg will have a group open to riders who want to support the foundation.

The organisation’s development manager Ivan Achiume said, “This is the second year that we will be having the support of the charity group. Last year 50 cyclists joined us and we managed to collect R100 000 for the organisation”.

He added this year entries will be open to an unlimited amount of riders.

“We have received a sponsor for cycling shirts, so riders and their families can join us and support a good cause,” said Achiume.

New Creation Family Church pastor Paul Dennison said, “The Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge is a great opportunity to challenge yourself physically. The added challenge is to ride for a purpose and make a difference by raising money for a charity or a good cause. My wife and I will be riding again this year for Oasis Haven”.

Cyclists that join the group will also be able to join them for occasional practise runs before the race. “These practise runs help our riders bond with each other and one or two friendships have been created out of these runs,” said Achiume. He added if riders want to join in they can email him their name, surname and ID numbers.
