Bus crash injures 32 children

Bus overturns after leaving road

Paramedics were called to the scene of a serious bus accident on 5 August at about 8.30am.

“The passenger bus appeared to have left the road and crashed into a ditch at the side of the road at the corner of Witkoppen Road and Waterford Drive in Douglasdale,” said ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson. “Paramedics found that the 100 occupants of the bus were school children aged 10-years-old and younger. They managed to climb from the wreckage and were found seated or walking around the scene.”

All of the children were assessed for injuries and it was found that only 32 of them would need further treatment for their injuries in hospital. “The 32 patients fortunately only suffered minor or moderate injuries and they were in a stable condition while en route to hospital.”

The remaining occupants of the bus were removed from the scene privately. “The cause of the accident is unclear. However local police attended the scene to investigate,” said Jackson.
