Quick reaction nets copper thieves

Four copper thieves were arrested in a joint operation by Linden Police and ADT on 2 August.

“My husband was informed at 00.20am that thieves were breaking into his building site and stealing the copper tubing,” said the Fontainebleau resident. She requested anonymity as she feared retribution.

“While he was trying to contact the police emergency number I called the sector patrol vehicle which responded immediately.”

According to her, by the time the police arrived at the scene of the crime at the corner of Cross Street and Malibongwe Drive, the suspects had already fled into nearby bushes with the stolen copper.

“Fortunately ADT was also in the area and one of the officers saw the suspects cutting up the copper. A Captain Molefe from Linden Sector 3 responded to the initial call and the whole experience was amazing.”

One of the suspects arrested by police had been fired by the complainant two weeks previously.
