It’s a dogs life

BLAIRGOWRIE- A couple have been caught on video loading their dogs into their boot, ostensibly to protect the interior of their luxury car.

The sight of two dogs being put in the boot of a car has angered a couple who are animal lovers.

“These are not small dogs,” said the woman. She has requested her identity be withheld as she fears retribution when she walks her dogs in the popular Delta Park in Blairgowrie.

“I don’t know if this is illegal or not, but it really doesn’t sit well with me. Even if it is a large sedan, it doesn’t mean people should be stuffing two large dogs in the boot then locking it.”The woman took a video of the couple involved. and sits in the car and waits for his wife to load the knee high dogs in the boot, which seem to be relatively calm about the process. Near the end of the video the one dog can be seen sticking its head out which the wife pushes back as she closes the lid.

Senior Inspector Jaco Pieterse of the NSPCA said it is a contravention in terms of the Animals Protection Act to confine any animal in the boot of a vehicle. “But it all depends on the situation and the video and photos supplied do not show if the boot is completely enclosed, if the back seats are lowered forward to allow for free flowing ventilation or the size of the dogs placed in the boot. So we need to do some more investigation before we can say anything concrete.”

According to the source who supplied the video, this is a regular occurrence. “I came forward now because this is the third time I’ve seen it and enough is enough. This is not right.”
