World Snow Day in the heart of Randburg

FERNDALE – Children and adults alike learn how to ski in snowless Joburg.

World Snow Day was celebrated at Ski Deck in Ferndale on 15 January with no snow, but lots of fun.

Amy Vermeulen of Ski Deck said, “We had a great fun-filled day of skiing, snowboarding and sliding down the slopes. Many families who go ski overseas, and locally, want to learn to ski before they go. Learning to ski before you go increases your proficiency and confidence; we want people to enjoy it.”

The initiative was aimed to raise awareness about snow sports and to get the youth to be outside instead of on their PCs or iPads, and to discover that there is more enjoyment in real snow sports activities.

“Here you can have fun skiing, snowboarding and bumboarding. About 10 families joined in on the World Snow Day to try out skiing and snowboarding. There were many fun activities for the children such as bumboarding, a jumping castle, jungle gym, trampoline and even a zip line.

“The main aim is to raise awareness, educate and inform. We want skiing and snowboarding to be the first choice winter sport.”
