Italy comes to Montecasino

MONTECASINO – People from all walks of life attend the Made in Italy festival.

The ‘Made in Italy’ festival took place at Montecasino, for the first time. The festival offered an experience of what Italy and it’s culture has to offer.

The festival took place from 6 to 8 May and was open to all members of the public. There were various activities for visitors, families and food lovers to enjoy.

These activities included live cooking demonstrations with popular chef Benny Masekwameng and the first winner of Master Chef South Africa Deena Naidoo. There were also various Italian foods , cheese, coffee, pasta making and deli stalls for people to explore.

Montecasino public relations officer Sian Bailey said that this festival was the first of it’s kind hosted at Montecasino and due to its success, it will become an annual event.

“We are always looking to expand our entertainment offerings, our tenants and also external suppliers participating in the festival,” said Bailey.

She added that Ferrari Show Day on 8 May, is also an annual event at Montecasino that is hosted by Southern Equitorial Ferrari Automobili Club (SEFAC). Ferrari owners get to park their cars in the display area and the public gets to vote for their Ferrari.

Jean and Wilmarie Joubert said this was the first time they attended a festival of this kind and shared common sentiments.

“We are most looking forward to the Ferrari Show Day and to explore different stalls because we love Italian food,” said the Jouberts.

Meat maker Kris Rostowski who had a cold meat stall said he makes salami and ham from scratch. Due to the great response from people, he believes that people enjoy handmade products, that are not available anywhere else.
