GALLERY: Lucky Mohale wins the Adrienne Hersch Challenge, again

MALANSHOF – Lucky Mohale takes the glory after winning the 21km race at the Adrienne Hersch Challenge.

Over 4 000 runners braved the cold weather to run in the Adrienne Hersch Challenge, which started at the Randburg Sports Complex in Malanshof.

Young and old alike took part in the 21km, 10km and 5km fun run, hosted by Randburg Harriers Running Club on 8 May. Lucky Mohale won the title again, but unfortunately he did not break any records at this year’s race. Last year, Mohale broke the record for the 21km race by a second, scooping the top honors in 01:07:05. This year, he finished in a time of 01:07:34.

Mohale, who ran for the Boxer Athletics Club, said that he enjoyed running the race but struggled to shake off other runners who stuck by his side for most of the race.

“I manged to shake off two other runners in the last kilometre, I believe that I am a little over-run as I recently ran a race in Morocco and I will be running again in Cape Town soon,” he said.

He pointed out that he was happy that he had won the race again and added that he had put in a lot of hard work to win.

There were food and drink stalls that offered refreshments before and after the race as spectators came to support their family members and friends who took part.

PinkDrive also had a stall that sold an assortment of wares to raise funds for their organisation.

There were runners from various running clubs from across Gauteng.

Veteran runner Sam bolo said that he found the 10km race challenging, especially as the first half of it was uphill.

“I am happy with my performance, it was a really great race but I need to rest before my next race,” he said.
