GALLERY: Curro loves the earth

SUNDOWNER – Curro Aurora Private School celebrates the Earth by planting trees and singing songs.

Curro Aurora Private School celebrated Earth Day on 22 April by loving the earth and all the beauty it gives.

Pupils planted trees and released doves. All the pupils gathered together to commemorate the glorious day. The assembly was lead by the High School seniors. Head girl, Heiletjè van Zyl opened the ceremony with a poem that spoke of the importance of taking care of nature.

The poem highlighted how all that is on the earth is intertwined and because of this, all of its inhabitants need great care.

The school spent Earth Day without electricity. No laptops or phones were used. This announcement, that was made by the executive head, Johann Ueckeman was met with hesitation but was welcomed for the greater good.

Head boy Buhe Lukuta said that it is the duty of their generation to make the earth better. He noted how each decision made now will affect how future generations live. He pleaded that pupils start to do their part in not only making the school look clean but the earth too.

After all the speeches and prayers, the school sang Michael Jackson’s song Heal the world. While they sang, a beautiful flock of white doves was released. Jubilant cheers roared through the school.
