Nurturing the nurturer event at Orion College

RANDPARK RIDGE – Guests attended a therapist tea and workshop at Orion Private College.

Orion College hosted a therapist tea and workshop, that was themed Nurturing the nurturer. Therapists got the opportunity to learn how to take care of themselves within their professions.

Orion College head of therapy, Daline Lagesse said that the therapist tea and workshop is an annual event, that the school has every year around the same time.

“The aim of the tea is to let therapists from surrounding areas know what we are all about. It is also an opportunity to network and invite guest speakers every year. We generally have a good relationship with other therapists and recommend each other to others in the same industry,” said Lagesse.

She added that the school got positive feedback from guests and some described it as a comforting environment.

Orion Primary School principal Megan Scannell said in her speech that the school offers different teaching techniques for specialised learning.

“We aim to provide a less restrictive, structured and pressure-free environment in order for pupils to reach their goals. All decisions are made according to the pupil’s needs,” said Scannell.

The event was also attended by Louise Pickering who provided a variety of toys at the event.

“We are here to assist therapists to provide them with equipment they need to to help teach children with their learning disabilities. This will help prepare them to strive in the world around them,” said Pickering.

Guest speaker Dr Elzette Fritz spoke about the toll their profession has on their mental and physical health.

“It is important to remain calm in stressful situations in order to deliver a good service and attitude when dealing with clients. Therapists work in an environment that is energy draining and in some instances you may suffer from different types of anxiety. I encourage therapists to always remember to slow down and breathe,” explained Dr Fritz.

Towards the end of her presentation, guests did practical exercises that put the theory into practice.
