Some of the country’s most talented youth gathered together at Roodepoort Theatre on 6 February when Figures Models SA held its nation-wide talent and model scout competition.
The event called for all dancers, singers, actors and models to show the scouts exactly what they are made of. The aim of the competition is to select talented young individuals who will go to New York City in July for the International Model Talent Association (IMTA). There, aspiring youngsters will showcase their skill for internationally acclaimed agencies in hopes of being signed by one of them.
Figures Model Randpark Ridge owner, Merlene Nortjies was ecstatic that four out the five skilled youngsters picked to go to New York were from Randburg branch. The excited teens shared their fantastic hopes for the future and what they wish to accomplish with this great opportunity to fulfill their dreams.
Jade Maria (15), a singer from Northwold, has recorded songs with Water Shed and Prime Circle said that she hopes that one day she will get signed by an international record label. She further divulged that it has not really sunk in that she is going to New York in July.
“It sounds very cliché, but this is the most amazing indescribable feeling,” said Maria.
To aspiring singers, Maria said to make sure that you can really hone your craft and not just go by what others say. She went on to say that you also need a positive mindset.
Elektra Tokkos (18), a self-taught dancer from Weltevreden Park said she was inspired by Micheal Jackson and international dancer, Fikshu. She wants peers with the same ambitions as her to find their own style, and see someone who is telling them they will never accomplish their dreams as someone who unwittingly forces them to do better.
Seren Koekmoer (13), shared that she one day sees herself making a career of modelling in New York. The captivating Northcliff beauty said that one of the best advice she has received from her mother was the phrase, ‘If you’re not going to do something properly, don’t bother doing it at all.’
