A helping hand

FONTAINEBLEAU – Residents are welcome to donate items in a good condition in order to raise funds for charity.

Robert Miller from Jukskei Park has always been involved in community work for many years. His passion for giving back to charities encouraged him to open his own charity stores.

Miller founded and opened a new charity shop called The Charity Stores at the Fontainebleau Village Shopping Centre in Randburg. He said he opened his first charity store in Wilro Park three years ago and has opened two more in Kelvin and Fontainebleau since then.

“I was previously a business owner who did fundraising for different charities. When I closed down my business I decided to open my own charity store to raise funds for worthy causes. I support FWC Hospice , Sparrow Ministries Rainbow Village and child-headed households in Orange Farm,” said Miller.

The Charity Stores depend on donations from residents and organisations that can be used or brand new items. Donated items are then re-sold at affordable prices where funds are be donated toward a charity in need. Miller said that the response he has received from the community has been fantastic.

” Some donated items go directly to the charities who need them such as furniture and clothes that add value to daily lives. We employ volunteers at all stores who are always welcome to help us in which ever way possible. During school holidays we normally have pupils volunteer their time to work at the store in their spare time,” said Miller.

The founder of The Charity Stores is also a board member at FWC Hospice for more than a year now and is involved in organising fundraising initiatives as well as helping with their daily challenges.

“This year I plan to establish self-funding initiatives where charities can be involved to empower themselves too and raise funds for their organisation,” said Miller.
