VW revs for Woodrock

NORTH RIDING – VW enthusiasts show their support for Woodrock Animal Rescue.

The VW Club hosted a picnic at Golden Harvest Park in aid of the Woodrock Animal Rescue on 31 January.

Chairman of the VW Club Ian Foat said, “Every year we host a charity event and this year, Woodrock appealed to us for the amazing work they do to help and rescue animals.” Friends, committee members and guests could buy a picnic basket for R120 as well as give donations with proceeds donated to Woodrock. Dozens of VW cars filled the picnic area – ranging from the classic Beetle to the more modern GTIs.

Stella and Nicholas Meldau founded Woodrock Animal Rescue, which is situated in the Hennops River Valley, in 1992. The non-profit organisation has a pro-life stance that rescues and adopts all sorts of animals – from piglets to dogs – in nearby informal settlements and surrounding communities.

Stella said, “Our dream is to build a clinic on our premises. We use so much petrol and time transporting needy animals from the shelter to the vet – time that could have been used to save an animal’s life.”

Foat added, “It is all about car guys and girls getting together to enjoy friends, family, cars and a beautiful day at the park.”

Committee member Terisha Ramdin as well as Foat thanked Spar Northrand and Eagle Canyon, Masmart, West Pack Lifestyle, Red Bull and MotoQuip for the kind sponsorship which aided in raising funds for a most noteworthy cause.
